These things you point out would have happened with or without tax cuts. People are better off because of productivity gains which allowed for higher incomes and the mass production of 'things' particularly in countries with a lower standard of living which lowered the cost of those 'things' to the average American consumer. Nonetheless, from the 1970s until now, a larger and larger percentage of America's resources have come under the control of a smaller and smaller percentage of the nation's population.
There is a ton of bullshit in that paragraph.
First, to argue that "it would have happened anyway" is bogus; we have seen historically that when you have tax cuts, people (ALL people) benefit.
No we haven't....not historically, not currently. That's another myth perpetuated by the right.
This has been remarkably consistent. Tax cuts cause economic growth and it does in fact "trickle down" to the poor. There simply isn't any doubt about this at this point.
The past 2-3 economic recoveries took roughly two years to produce new jobs whether there were tax cuts or not. Its been shown that during a recession, the rich behave much like the rest of the population and save whatever money they gain through tax cuts.
It is absolutely true that the rich have gotten richer. I told you that much. But it is also true that the poor have gotten richer. And in fact, the poor have gotten DISPROPORTIONATELY richer.
Not by any metric have the poor done as well as the rich. Not by any metric. That's another myth you all perpetuate: America, the land of milk and honey......just pull yourself up by the bootstraps. Meanwhile as the Rs have snookered the poor and middle class, the rich, the financial mainstay of the Republican party, have gotten richer. It should be a crime.
A few people have gotten filthy rich. And this, by the way, is not an "American" event. People in countries all over the world have gotten filthy rich and to a large extent it is due to these other countries having adopted the policies that made Americans rich. China and Russia are good examples, but there are plenty more. Take Merkel for example. The simple truth is that countries around the world have emulated the Reaganesque economic policy and they have done so with excellent results.
You are simply saturated in BS today. These countries may be doing better but America is going downhill. America is expected to recover last from the economic mess into which the Bushies threw the world. You all have made the 21st century the Chinese century and not an American one. And it just infuriates me that wingers are still allowed to call themselves Americans and live in this country. |
