I concur. That was exactly my thought.

Now that Thomas and Paul have come to that conclusion, I'll pipe in that I agree that IBM's decision validates Tom Siebel's thinking about ERM. For fear of being perceived as being a Siebel cheerleader, I wanted to wait for others to express that opinion before mentioning it.

It will be very interesting to see how IBM does in ERM. Remember their CRM efforts? They bought about the tenth largest CRM company (at the time), Software Artistry. That didn't work out as a business division, so they created a wholly owned subsidiary with its own board. That didn't work so they shut it down and teamed up with Siebel. I'm not suggesting that the same thing will happen again, especially since I believe IBM is getting into the ERM game a lot sooner relatively speaking than their entry into the CRM game.
