Your Dad had the misfortune to be born in Eastern Cananda rather than the West.

He never liked Canada. Said that they had two reasons for not doing things in Canada.

1) The English wouldn't like it.
or
2) The Catholic Church wouldn't like it.

Of course, this was 85 years ago.

Of course, nowadays, the reason Easterners give for not doing something is "it's what the Americans do."

Whether or not it's the case.
