FWIW, two full page ads in USA Today. One in the business section and one in Life section.

The one in business section, a front shot of a neatly dressed guy (rather conservative looking) holding a Zip media and something about carrying your office. At the bottom left side of the paper was a laptap with Zip disk sticking out.

The one in Life section ask why Johnny loves his Compaq 4550 and the ad goes on to explain how it comes with the Zip drive and all that stuff. At the bottom left side of the paper was a laptop with diskette sticking out.

Thought the ads were very effective becasue it seemed that they were aimed at people not too familiar with the media and explained the wide range benefits of the drive. Sort of like taking the consumer by the hand. This type of advertising was needed from the start, not the cargo plane ad, IMO.
