Er, isn't that supposed to be "ignorant slut", as in the old Saturday Night Live? Apologies to the moderator, Jane Curtain, and everybody else, of course.
For what it's worth, from the "half full" point of view, AMD's chipset/mobo/infrastructure situation looks worlds better than a year ago. When the Athlon came out, mobo support was thin and there was evidence that manufacturers were intimidated by Intel. Remember the Asus board you could maybe buy in an unmarked box if you knew where to look? Now, KT133 boards are widely available, there's all kinds of DDR chipsets in the works, and many (most?) of the chipset and mobo manufacturers seen to be giving AMD close to equal priority with Intel. Meanwhile, Intel is still stuck with our friend Rambus for the Willy launch, though the days of that particular friendship seem numbered, unfortunately.
Could be better, but it could be much, much worse too. Unlike Intel, AMD does not have infinite resources.
Cheers, Dan. |
