That would be a horror. By the current polls quoted in the article kerry is ahead 49-45-6. Thats 55-45 for the center left/Far left hon-coalition. But in electoral college terms its still 49-45 Kerry. If bush were to gain only 1 or 1.5 points, the overall numbers reduce to 54-46 left right but bush could win in the electoral college. That would be a national disaster. And thats why the electoral college must go. Whatever good it did in the past, it is dwarfted by this possibility. I will give you one example--it forces bush to run in small contended states. If he spent more time hanging with Arnold in California, he still wouldnt win the state but he he would pick up more votes than he would get in WVA. mike
