<<dropping margins for the boardmakers (Diamond and Creative) will most certainly cause them to cut back on buying VoodooII chipsets from 3Dfx etc>>

A senior Diamond exec was quoted Tuesday regarding memory chip pricing as the reason for dropping prices. Not that DIMD has perfect performance, remember when Voodoo2 was first announced, they were NOT going to do a 12 meg version as they forecast "low demand" and conceded that market to CREAF ! The market spoke, they listened, and of course we know now what their most profitable card is. As far as "sales dropping below production" thats always the case, you have to produce first, then sell. Perhaps a ratio of inventory to sales would be more appropriate. Stores seem to be stocked one day and sold out the next here on the west coast.

<<<At $38, I would guess that board manufacturers would have to charge at least $150/board (for a Banshee)>>>

JPA had an interesting AIB cost breakout from Taiwan on the i740 and how zillions, well dozens of mfgrs could profitably sell their complete boards for $46 USD. That would equate to a breakeven Banshee at less than $80 for a lowcost AIB card mfgr who'd flip it OEM for less than $100. Add the packaging and gamepak and warrantee and you're at $149 retail.

JMHO - long & strong - can we skip this week and FF to earnings?
OK maybe just to Friday so we can see the real TNT review from Anand. That's worth waiting for !
