Welcome, Justin Y.
re. CST: I added a bit more to my position after I received shares. (Am still holding VLO.) Didn't realize CST traded before then as a 'when issued'.

The CST stores I see aren't in such great locations. Although... maybe it's me who's just driving in sleazy areas -g-. I don't know about Texas locations where CST is big. I failed to pick up Susser (It's apparently in many Texas locations) when the stock was lower.

Yes, on comparables basis, maybe CST can be viewed as less expensive than competitor stocks. Maybe though deservedly lower - CST's not had any history as a stand-alone company.

I like CST for it's potential. Also that it owns much of its real estate. I've believed that maybe -- as with many spin-offs -- stockholders of the main company (here Valero) would not be so interested in the spun out company (CST) and would sell their shares, depressing the stock and giving buyers a good entry point. That doesn't seem to have happened. Maybe too many positive articles about profiting from spin-offs and Seeking Alpha/Fool articles on positives of CST. Maybe it's just the market -- so many stocks have just moved up.

Imo, CST is not a value stock. There's no history as stand-alone; management's strategy/focus now may or may not work out; investing on a relative (comparable) basis is risky; the metrics I use to look at a company don't tell me that this is a value company - This only my opinion. (I could be looking at the wrong/inappropriate metrics/factors.)
