CR, contd. from zogby.com

...Despite the area's low turnout, Utica-based pollster John Zogby said he thought the campaign had been good for the Democratic Party.

"It's been a good run for the Democrats," he said. "Things have stayed somewhat competitive and relatively friendly in the competition between Kerry and Edwards."

He said the race had kept Democrats engaged and sent a message that Democrats are not happy with the way things are going.

Zogby added that Edwards' departure from the race was well-timed, because it would prevent a schism from forming.

"Had he stayed in longer, he would have hurt Kerry and it would have become bitter," he said.

Asked if he thought Edwards might be eyeing the vice presidential spot, Zogby said it was unlikely he would be picked. The pollster put his bet on U.S. Rep. Dick Gephardt from Missouri, who left the race after the Iowa caucuses.
