Elpida says expects no supply interruptions following quake

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese chipmaker Elpida Memory Inc said on Monday it expected no interruptions to its product supply following the catastrophic March 11 earthquake and tsunami, which triggered a nuclear safety crisis and rolling power blackouts.

The world's No. 3 maker of DRAM chips after Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor, said it had secured enough parts and materials to continue supplying products to customers as usual until the end of July.

Elpida added that it was working on alternative plans for material supply for August and beyond.

All the company's factories are operating at close to normal levels, an Elpida spokesman said.

Worries mounted over disruptions to the global supply chain for DRAM chips after the earthquake and tsunami destroyed some factories in northeastern Japan, while power cuts in the Tokyo area have affected production at other facilities.
