wiley and ALL: It was a bright, sunny morning when the ship docked in Amsterdam. Joe had traded his watch for early shore leave and now wandered down the gangplank to the waterside below. Stalls were opening along the strand as vendors set out their wares. Joe was hungry - as he had missed the morning meal. Feeling some pangs - he ambled over to a stall whre the owner was setting out "onions". Joe, innocently, picked up one and took a bite - at the same time picking a florin from his pocket...... well, the owner went ballistic !!!! A passerby, informed Joe that he had just taken a bite of a 10,000 florin tulip bulb....poor Joe - as the constabularly hauled him away - he was heard to mutter: WELL IT LOOKED LIKE AN ORDINARY ONION TO ME.
