OT: Bob will like this story.
This whole discussion reminds me of when I was a teenager. My first car that I ended up driving was a '70 Chevelle (Basically a laptop in this analogy).
Nice car but not what I really wanted.
The day I went car shopping, right there on the lot for a mere $900.00 more, was a black, w white stripes, '70 Chevelle SS 454 with cowl induction (Top end gaming desktop with wheels!).
Man I wanted that car. Instead I got stuck with a 307.
Thanks Dad and Mom! You know it was my money!;-(
I tried to get as much performance out of it as I could. Just like maxing out the DRAM on every laptop I have ever owned.
So with the car I put headers on it and Thrush glasspacks on them. I changed the manifold to an Eldebrock performance unit and upgraded to a Carter AFB 4 barrel. I even put a shift kit in the automatic transmission to shave off a few hundreds off when I took it to the drag strip.
I never broke 16 seconds with it.
It could have been worse. I might have bought a Pinto, Vega or Gremlin! All basically tablets in my analogy.
It may have been slower than I wanted but I loved my Chevelle. I'm sure people who owned even Pintos, Vegas and Gremlins loved their cars too. And why not they could all get you from point A to point B, for a while, anyway.
That's why I can understand loving all forms of technology, just like, all kinds of cars.
Funny thing now though is that while I still really want that ass kickin' '70 Chevelle LS-6 SS you can buy much more performance for a lot less bucks now than a classic LS-6 Chevelle that you would end up just wanting to trailer to shows, rather than drive, from any of the big three in Detroit not to mention from overseas.
Cars of all shapes and sizes, even hybrid,s all need similar components just like desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablets and smartphones all need chips.
Love whatever you like!
Buy whatever you want.
But make money trading the component makers, before the box makers, whether you are talking auto parts, or computer chips, because that is where you'll get the most bang for the buck.
That was all I was trying to say.
