Mix Tape

Mix Tape is a 4-part Irish/Australian series which has enough drama to lift it out of romance-style predictability, but to really enjoy it you should probably either have lived through the 1980s or be a fan of ‘80s-style New Wave music, particularly British bands. If names like The Cure, The The, and The Church are familiar to you in a good way, you might want to check out Mix Tape.

But the series is more than just music, though music is what binds the two main characters together. We get two story lines separated by decades. In one, the two leads meet and fall in love as teenagers in 1980s Sheffield, but that ends suddenly when the female abruptly leaves town without warning or explanation. In the modern day story line, he lives in England and she in Australia, both in rocky marriages. He is a music writer, i.e. his wife supports him, while she is also a writer, but of a newly minted bestseller. When they reconnect after all these years, sparks are not the only things that fly, but be assured that the story never descends to the imaginary world of romance cliches.
