WSJ FedEx Slashes Prices to Fill Its Planes Shipping giant offering two-day air for same price as ground, hoping to lure customers from UPS and boost flagging Express network June 23, 2019 7:24 pm ET FedEx Corp. is offering big discounts to woo online merchants to its air network as it seeks to refashion a delivery system ill-equipped for the rise of e-commerce. The shipping giant, which is ending an air-shipping contract with Amazon.com Inc. later this month, is cutting prices for some customers of its Express network, according to people familiar with the matter. That includes offering guaranteed two-day air service for the same price as shipping items through its Ground division, the people said. The deals are being given to try to win over shippers from FedEx rival United Parcel Service Inc. and to get them to switch from what has historically been a lower-price shipping option in FedEx Ground, these people said.
