Yes, Cape Mendocino and desolate. The same can be said for much of the Northern California coastal regions. Quite peaceful, actually. I wouldn't mind living there at all.

I can't recall the exact year of the Ferndale earthquake but think it was after 1992. I know it was after the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. We had quite a few "big ones" throughout the State after 1989, and it was hard for me to keep track of them.
