the point is what happens next.maffei doesn't know that since his vision is what is shipping NOT what is selling

Bill, really the same thing except for maybe 15 to 20 days. This might be a good average, considering 4 to 5 weeks inventory at CPQ and its ilk, vs. 1 to 2 weeks inventory at DELL and its ilk. So if this backup as you call it has been going on for awhile now, I'd think Maffei would know. Many (not on this thread) think this backup has already peaked, and is beginning to unwind. Perhaps Maffei knows more than anyone here.

also the point about intc high end is that prices are sliding as the mkt moves sub 1000 and corp y2k trails off to zero soon.p2/p3 will both tank in price as this unfolds

Well, "zero" and "soon" are both a little extreme to say the least. Perhaps 4th quarter "slowdown" might be more appropriate. And I don't think this will surprise anyone as being more than a "blip". Probably a buying opportunity.

As far as sub 1K, and P2/P3 pricing, within a couple of quarters, AMD will be better positioned to compete in the mid to high end with K6-3 and K7. So two possibilities will arise. AMD will mostly forgo the low-end because of capacity limitations, and choose to compete in the mid-range ($130-$350 CPUs) where they can actually make money for the sharehloders, at the expense of market share. This is most likely, IMO. Or, they continue to try to undercut INTC in price, run out of cash, and file chapter 11. Not so likely.

So in my opinion, the sub 1k space (actually, I think you mean sub $80, because today, a 1K PC leaves ample room for a $200-250 CPU.) may not be around forever. Better get one while you can <g>.

at least the insiders seem to disagree when it comes to their own money.

Please stop with the insider selling story. When haven't insiders sold? Insiders at DELL, CSCO, INTC, MSFT, etc have been selling for years and years. These guys are good at running companies, not making investment decisions <g>.
