Tero: I'd love to see Nokia produce handsets for Nextel. Nextel is has the #1 growth rate among PCS/digital cellular providers here in the U.S. using TDMA-based iDEN (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network) technology from Motorola. iDEN specs have been "open' for the last 3-4 years - a move made by Motorola to encourage other vendors to back the standard.
Nextel has a powerful combination of features - digital cellular, instant dispatch (in conference with up to 100 users), text, paging, voice-mail, three-way conferencing, speaker phone, two lines, caller ID.....etc. etc. etc.
Perhaps Nokia can be thankful Motorola was busy with Nextel in the first place. The distraction could have allowed Nokia to get the 1-2 year leap on PCS technologies in the first place.
Appreciate your insights.
BTW - I skied with one of the Finnish Nokia specialists last week in Squaw Valley, CA. during Interbourse - a ski event of some 600 securities professionals from 30+ exchanges from the world over.
Please note, my firm trades Nokia also - these comments are my own. I do not comment on this board much because of this interest. But I proudly can tell you our first-born son's God parents live in Turku and work for Nokia. I have many Finnish friends and great respect for Finnish design and innovation.
Good luck!
