OFF TOPIC >>> IRQ's & COM ports

Victor --

<< Besides the mac, how about getting a Belkin data switch, they are about $50 - 100 depending how many ports you want (you can also get it from black box) hook it up to one com port and then you have a dial switch to choose the device you want to use. >>

Thanks for the suggestion, as I have not heard of a Belkin data switch. This may be a possible solution, and I'll look into it. Getting a Mac is not a solution, as most of my technical analysis programs don't run on a Mac.

<< This may be stupid, but are you using all four coms? >>

I'm using COM1 for one modem (to receive incoming faxes and voicemail) and COM2 for another modem (to retrieve data and for Internet access). As I understand it, I could use COM3 or COM4 for the Ricochet modem, if I had any free IRQ's, which I don't. So the problem is that all the IRQ's are taken. I have to believe that I'm not the first person to run into this frustrating situation. But maybe I just don't know what I'm doing... A friend sent me a recent article out of Boot Magazine titled "Conquering IRQsome Conflicts" that has some good suggestions as well, like possibly being able to share an IRQ. Assuming I don't totally wipe out my computer, I'll keep you posted.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion and welcome to the thread!

Rex
