Don,

It's not the color but a symbolism. Sure PC's have traditionally always cost less than Macs, but then much of the innovation has really come from the Mac world even if at a higher price. Innovation always has a price, don't you agree? Btw, when was the last time IBM innovated anything? If IBM hadn't created the first PC, we'd all be using Macs today. Or maybe a Sinclair, or Hyperion or who knows what. In 100 years, IBM's contribution will be seen as a one hit wonder while Apple has continued to redefine or enhance the computing desktop. Of course thanks should also go to the unsung heros at Xerox PARC.
