Quigley's has introduced several extensions to its leading Cold-Eeze brand. The company began the retail rollout of Kids-Eeze last month, following a successful market test in select Walgreens stores. Kids-Eeze has a new delivery system for its patented ZIGG formula: bubble gum. The 18-count package retails between $5.95 and $6.95.

An advertising campaign for Kids-Eeze, complete with a radio and television component, is scheduled during the second quarter.

Quantum has developed new delivery forms for its own Cold Season Plus+ line of zinc and echinacea offerings.

The new zinc drops contain 14 mg of zinc acetate, vitamin A, slippery elm, propolis and goldenseal; the pops have the same ingredient base, but a lower concentration of zinc--5 mg. Herbal Sore Throat Spray adds kava to zinc, echinacea and slippery elm for an effect that is as soothing to the throat as it is calming to the nerves. Herbal ColdSeason Defense combines zinc, echinacea, elderberry and vitamin C. Expector-Aid Formula adds eucalyptus and other herbal ingredients to help clear bronchial passages.

Northwest Natural Products has entered the natural care cough-cold business with two new items launched under the Cold Active brand label. Cold Active Echinacea tablets--which include vitamin C for extra synergistic benefits--are chewable, allowing for quick absorption in the body.

Cold Active Zinc lozenges add vitamin C, plus the powerful antioxidant vitamin A, to help eliminate the free radicals that compromise health over the long term.

Gel Tech--a new venture by Biodelivery Technologies Inc. and GumTech International--has introduced Zicam, a homeopathic nasal gel spray, which the company insists can lessen the duration of the common cold from an average of 10 to 14 days to 1.5 days. Zinullose, the patented active ingredient in Zicam, is billed as a powerful nasal decongestant capable of blocking the cold virus where it starts--in the nasal passages. Zinullose binds to the cold virus and keeps it from spreading; as such, it is recommended for usage immediately upon the onset of cold symptoms.

A .50-fluid-ounce spray bottle retails for a suggested $12.99.

Ricola introduced a new flavor to its line of echinacea herb throat lozenges just in time for the cold season. Retail rollout of Ricola sugar free green tea and echinacea lozenges began in late December. Tapping into green tea's heightened popularity as a powerful antioxidant, the new sugar free green tea and echinacea lozenge joins Ricola's other two echinacea-formulated cough drop flavors: echinacea honey-lemon and echinacea orange spice.
