Agreed. Marijuana legalization was one of the few positive outcomes from this election.

As I keep preaching, marijuana legalization is a conservative cause! As a fundamental point of principle, conservatives need to stand up for individual rights and against the power of a state that wants to dictate what we put into our bodies. It always amazes me when conservatives think it's perfectly okay to fund billion-dollar security agencies that 1) hound and imprisons millions of Americans for smoking a plant and 2) has totally failed on its own terms (have we "won" this war yet? will we ever?)

And then there's the politics - we totally lost the youth vote in this disaster. And continuing to advocate that any kid who smokes a joint should be sent to prison is hardly going to improve our standing with that demographic. Come on, let's get ahead of an issue for once. Let's join the 21st century.

I hope we'll recast ourselves from the War On Drugs party (failed expensive war, failed stupid policy) to something more enlightened and based on conservative principles. Not only will this be right but it will also earn us votes.

And we need lots more of those and pronto. Especially from the young.
