New Zealanders are not too bright and think that "We need more people to boost the economy". It's quite pleasant with a low population.
The foolish NZers also did not realize that "business migrants" from China where swindling is the norm would soon figure out ways such as using one lump of money to get lots of people in by borrowing it from an immigration consultant, holding it long enough to get in under the wire, then repaying it so another could get in and get the free country, free dividends from having an electricity account, free medical treatment, free schools, free roads, free dole, free domestic purposes benefit [get paid to have babies], free sickness benefit. "Oh I'm a refugee, escaping from evil-doers, please save me" is an even quicker way in. Dumb Kiwis think they can save the world. As such immigration zoomed, crime soared. Somalis of course don't stop being Somalis just because they go to NZ. Islamic Jihadists want honour killing wherever they go.
Tradable Citizenship is the way to do it. Fire all the kleptocrats in the immigration department, stop the swindling. Sell Tradable Citizenships 10,000 or 20,000 a year to the highest bidders. I guess bids would be at about $2 million once people realize what a great investment it is. AT 10,000 per year, it would take 100 years to add 1 million, which means dilution would be negligible. Most such investors would probably not live in NZ but just have it as a security and holiday place, or work there during summer and then go back to the northern hemisphere for the northern summer. Like migratory birds do. With A380s that's easy and cheap.
