Troy,
I went through this when I bought DELL before a split.
If you buy options before the SPLIT your options would receive the 3 for one just like the stock. The day of record means nothing regarding a split. I don't know why they keep saying "day of record". You would get the split no matter when you bought prior to the split but you must hold on until after the split to benefit.

The day of record would only apply on cash DIVIDENDS and if they give shares as a dividend not as a split. In this case, if you sold before the distribution date, you would still get the share
