(Nasdaq:NTAP) today announced that GTE Internetworking has completed the initial installation of NetApp's network server and data storage appliance "filer" solution in its Web hosting data center.
Since deployment at GTE Internetworking, NetApp's solutions are delivering 200% improvement in Internet server availability and between 10-20% faster access to GTE's personalized news, mail and personal Web services.

NetApp Filers Support GTE Internetworking's Explosive Growth
GTE Internetworking's GTE.net line of business provides consumers and small businesses nationwide with an online service that includes an email account, news service, and two Megabytes of personal Web space. GTE.net services over 700,000 active customer accounts, adding approximately 4,000 new accounts weekly. NetApp filers are used to store all users' Web pages and allow multiple Windows NT servers to access the same data, thereby enabling the highly scalable architecture required in such a high growth environment.
Today, GTE's Web-hosting service is running on eight NT 4.0 servers with Internet Information Server (IIS) running behind redundant nodes of a load-balancing system, in addition to two FTP (file transfer protocol) servers.
