Anyone notice that this was not one of Herb's more stellar efforts.

First, when the column ran ABX had just reported a quarterly writedown and loss that was larger than the annual profit figure Greenberg quoted (making it very much like AOL in its ability to wipe out past profits, rather than a contrast from the other end of the valuation spectrum).

Then, of course, gold prices plunged Friday and ABX showed that it still may have a pretty good downside left. Given that both companies pose risks, perhaps the relevant question to ask is whose upside would you rather own.
