Saying that "the government shouldn't tell private business owners what to do" isn't a good argument against it, either, considering that there are so many circumstances under which the government clearly should do so.

Its a good argument if you support the principle behind it, not so much if you don't.

There are cases where there is a much better case for government intervention, where the more general hands off policy has some very specific, important and solid reasons to be overruled. The principle isn't "government should never intervene in private decisions about private property", its more like that the default should be non-intervention and intervention should require strong justification.
