People didn't "clean their guns" during the depression of the 1930's, so I doubt it will happen now, but who knows??


Two major differences between then and now.

1. In the 1930s, Americans were much more self sufficient. Many of the adults were immigrants who grew up during famine years in Europe. They were born and raised minimalists.
2. The population of America in the 1930s was about 125 million.

The notion of 200 million of today's fat city dwellers voluntarily starving, when grocery store shelves are empty, and them not walking out to the country-side to fight and kill for food for themselves and their kids, seems implausible to me.
