I remember hearing about a con when I was drifting through a casino town 35 years ago. ... A winner heading to the parking lot would see a guy whupp'n the tar out of a 12 year old girl, who was pleading for someone to help. Winner would move off the main walk to object but still at a safe distance ... then two other guys would move in behind him.

One con I almost got caught in was in Gallup New Mexico. I was about 22 and walking through town at about dusk, hitch hiking to the Grand Canyon. A pretty young girl sidled up to me and asked if I wanted to come to her apartment and party for the evening. An old Navajo who'd given me a ride earlier had warned me about Gallup. Tempted as I was, I declined. She told me I was smart (which I wasn't, I was just anxious to get out of the most rotten town I'd ever been in) because there was some guys there waiting to roll who ever she brought.
