<I think 750 is a fine chip. The only thing (of substance) it lacks is support of PC-133, which was not widely used 1 year ago.>

A year ago you might be right. And at that time AMD
got the crown of absolute performance leader in
PC. And got design wins which later led to gains
in market share and high unit price.

Then Intel introduced FSB-133 machines, and got
performance lead by 5-10%. AMD failed to counter,
and now is resorted to second-best, with all
financial implications.

The 750 is lacking important marketing moniker - AGP4.
More, there were numerous reports from Web reviewers that
Athlon 750 systems were "picky" with regard to PC-100
memory, so I would say the memory was not mastered at all,
not only PC-133. Of course, every chip has it's own
scoop of problems, but this one was critically important
to Athlon success, and was a little short to deliver
the proper support in competitive environment.
