El: I wrote an e-mail to maguire. I figured that Mason will just say it wasn't him who made the alleged warning. Later if I dont get a reply, I will copy my letter to the Chairman, Rosen. Here it is with names and addresses deleted:

Dear Ms. Maguire:

I am a shareholder living in ..........., England. The recent fall in the price of share price has done substantial damage to my net wealth.

The price drop is contrary to the information, projections and assurances given by the company in its 4th quarter report and in recent statements made in London by the CEO. The fall appears to have been precipitated by statements attributed to various "executives" of the company by Credit Suisse First Boston. As a result of the confusion the conventional market wisdom now is that CPQ has warned: a more sophisticated theory is that it has not warned officially but has effectively guided expectations down and may yet warn officially.

The market needs explicit, clear guidance from CPQ - good or bad. It is no longer good enough to say that analysts jumped the gun. There is real fear that if this matter is left to drift, prey to rumour-mongers the stock could fall even more steeply causing serious damage to shareholders and to the reputation of the company. Indeed, much of the bad feeling arising from the recent fall appears to arise from a bad reputation the company has earned as a result of previous failures to communicate clearly and in a timely manner.
