Doug, my understanding is that Thomas has voted against Scalia twice. This was a Harper's index statistic, I'm sure a source was given but nothing easily accessible. Who knows, it may be three times by now. Scalia is widely considered brilliant, but he sure sounds mean. I haven't heard Thomas called brilliant.

The unfortunate part about the Thomas hearings is that he no doubt left them deeply embittered, but on the other hand spending 10 years as a lonely black in the Reagan/Bush Adms. must have had its own bitter elements. Those guys seemed to pride themselves on anti-political correctness.
