O'Reilly gets passive liberal people on his show and makes them look stupid. Its called being a bully.
This tactic is used daily on CNN (e.g., Paul Begala against the token Republican strategist). But I've never seen that done on O'Reilly at all. Can you please provide an example where this was done?
No. I don't agree with that. Castellenos [sp?], Rollins, the guy with the red hair...from a conservative church group...I can't remember his name, B. Bennett, etc.....they are not weak or passive people. They speak their minds loudly and clearly.
Occasionally, he gets a strong liberal on like B. Frank or Letterman and they make quick work of him.
I can't say I've ever seen anyone make "quick work" of him, unless he just refused to be nasty. I would urge you to watch on youtube the interview with Marvin Kalb, and in particular, if you could find the ENTIRE interview (not just the clips from O'Reilly's show). He destroyed Kalb at every turn, and Kalb in not a dummy.
B. Frank held his own......Letterman made quick work of him. I will watch the Kalb clip but frankly, I don't know who M. Kalb is. And before you rail at me, remember I was apolitical before 2000.
When you mention Letterman, it is a little different -- because he's in front of a hate-filled liberal audience. So, he's in a hostile environment. Still, I don't recall Letterman ever "making quick work" of O'Reilly.
I watched him do it twice. You may be right....O'Reilly may have been at a disadvantage since he was on the Letterman show. But really....should that makes such a big difference?
I don't watch his show daily because I find a lot of it boring. But I still find O'Reilly to be smart and an excellent, fair interviewer. There certainly isn't anyone else on TV in his category.
I agree with you he's smart. And I think he gave Obama a very fair interview. I was surprised. Again, I think he is one of the better commentators on Fox. And it shows.....he leads the ratings on that channel. |
