Ebbers told the Washington Post that the companies had been negotiating with both the European Union and the U.S. Justice Department on divestiture of MCI's sale of its Internet assets. "Obviously, we wouldn't be negotiating more if they had accepted our original proposal," he said in the joint interview with MCI Chairman Bert Roberts. The interview took place last Tuesday but was published on Monday in the Post's local business section. "They wanted an enhanced business proposal, and we have added a few bells and whistles to the original proposal. We now feel quite confident we're at a point where we'll get on with business," Ebbers said.>>>
