Acer, IBM form technology alliance
TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan's Acer Group and U.S. computer giant IBM have announced a seven-year, $8 billion procurement and technology alliance. Under the pact, IBM will sell Acer hard disk drives, microelectronics, networking and display technologies. Acer, Taiwan's largest computer maker, already manufactures IBM personal computers under an existing multibillion dollar agreement. The companies say the latest alliance could include joint development of new chips for use in IBM's PowerPC. The chips could be used in future Internet products and Internet-related business.
