Officers Search for Bear Sighted in Agoura Hills

Agoura Hills, May 26, 2006 - Los Angeles county deputies are on the scene in Agoura Hills where a bear has been sighted this morning.

The Sheriff's Department and state Department of Fish and Game were notified after the animal was seen near the 30800 block of Russell Ranch Road at mid-morning, according to a deputy at the sheriff's Malibu/Lost Hills Station.
Authorities late this morning believed they had contained the animal near a drainage ditch in the remote area, where some homes are under construction. They believe the bear is inside the drainpipe.

The sighting prompted a lockdown of a nearby elementary school for precaution
