You are the only one I know who was trapped like this, John.

1. Learned I can recharge the laptop using the cigarette lighter in the car. But that won't get me to the internet. While I have wi-fi, it requires electricity in the modem and the router.

2. My first reaction when the a/c went out was to grab a fan from the basement and carry it to the bedroom. But . . . . Well, that model fit the times when an air-conditioner breaks down and I responded that way. But didn't work Thursday.

3. Couldn't understand the run on gasoline stations that were much talked about until I decided the pumps run on electricity, so if one wanted/needed gas you had to go to the small subset of gas stations with their own generators. Hence long lines.

We learned more about taking care of ourselves when the system shuts down.
