On NPR's Democrat-in-disguise and CBS's non-admission

Oh that liberal media

NPR Ombudsman Jeffrey Dvorkin investigated allegations that Morning Edition “swing voter,” John Ridley, may not be so undecided, having donated some $500 to Democratic Presidential candidate Jerry Kerry and $500 before that to Wesley Clark. So, is Ridley “just another Democrat-in-disguise, claiming neutrality?”

"Not so,"
says Susan Feeney, Morning Edition senior editor. "John Ridley is a smart and funny political observer who really hasn’t made up his mind. John has also given money to the Republican National Committee and carries around an RNC card to prove it."

If so, it isn’t showing up on OpenSecrets.org, which tracks both hard and soft money contributions. It is, of course, possible that the contribution was so small or so recent that it isn't in the public database.

One more point. Referring to Rathergate, Dvorkin informs readers, “Anchor Dan Rather has apologized and has admitted that the documents he once defended as accurate are, in fact, forgeries.” Unless the ombudsman knows something the rest of us don’t, that is incorrect. As recently as Monday, Rather asserted, “Do I think they're forged? No.”
