Mohan, the reason that option trading helps a stock is that many portfolio managers require a stock to be optionable before they will buy it. This gives them more flexibility in that they can hedge as needed. Why would you short going INTO an event which makes the stock more attractive? Yahoo's main feature is not a search engine, but a categorical listing of sites. This requires a great deal of human work. I think there are many barriers to entry. While there might be sites that are better for this, can you name one? (Not for keyword searching, for which I prefer Excite or Infoseek.) Yes, their revenues are all advertising. The key to advertising is the numbers. Yahoo has the numbers. Anybody else has to build them, slowly over time. Yahoo has them.
