As everything else hurricane activity goes in cycles.

It is solar activity that has a strong correlation to increases and decreases in hurricanes. We are approaching a peak of several different solar cycles.

It is natural to expect an increase in hurricane activity. Actually, this year is anomalous because there are fewer hurricanes and typhoons being created this cycle than one would expect.
