Ok, I've updated my website again. I just got my "satellite return system" installed and wanted to try the upload. It's better than it was, but not stunning. In other words, what I expected.

The website is at
erickson-malinoski.com

As usual, let me know if anything's wrong.

OT - my experience (so far) with Pegasus (DirecPCs 2-way satellite return system). Note, I've been using the one-way for a year or so, but have only had Pegasus for a few days.

I live in a place that can't get cable modems, *dsl, line-of-sight, etc., due to the few people who live on my road, the condition of the phone lines, the distance to the switches, etc. So some time ago I opted for the DirecPC satellite system that uses a regular modem for outbound, and the satellite for inbound. The cursed ISP that I was using to dial-up kept dropping me, for whatever reason.

So I opted for the 2-way system in which both the outbound and inbound requests are transmitted through a satellite in geosynchronous orbit. So far, it works about as I expected. Not stunning, but not bad either. And I'm not having to re-dial the stinking ISP 4-5 times.

Don't expect miracles, though. The problem is that the signal has a 1/4 second delay for every request (up and down time to a satellite). The structure of a web page works against me here since there can be many requests and responses for a single page. If a request is small, the additional speed doesn't help. And virtually all outbound requests are small.

Of course, updating my web site is much more fun now since the outbound requests are pretty big, especially when uploading the summaries for, say, QCOM.

Anyway, I present the above in case anyone's interested. If you want more details, drop me a PM.

Best
Erick
