Dateline: Chicago MSU CORP. BOOTH MOBBED AT COMDEX!!!!!!!

SURF THE NET ON YOUR TV SET!!!!

I spoke with both Charlie McLaughlin of Forte Communications, and Raymond "Bo" O'Brien this afternoon regarding MSU's activities at COMDEX in Chicago.

First, I want to reiterate that MSU's exhibit is located in the Internet Section, East Hall, in Booth #N6106. It is somewhat small and nothing fancy due to the spontaneous decision to attend, and I imagine the cost involved. Those of you who live in the Chicago area should call in "sick" tomorrow and drop by and see the "result" of your investment .. <g> And anyone that has contacts with the media in the area should take some pro-active action and contact them and tell them about MSU. It is a GREAT story and the company needs all of the "free" publicity it can generate.

Keith Goodyer is representing MSU at the exhibit, and the emphasis is being placed on the Netbox. (But hey!!! that is where the real interest lies at this time, right???) Personally, I would like them to display the Minstrel as well, but I believe available space dictated that there was only enough room for the Netbox.

The NB is up and running and spewing out random websites for all of the spectators that are lined up 4-6 deep, and 4 wide to see it in action throughout the day. (YES!!! I said 4- 6 people DEEP, both days thus far in the exhibit) Keith Goodyer quipped to Bo O'Brien that he found that he was having difficulty taking a 15 minute break yesterday, because people's interest was so high in the Netbox. Apparently, Keith types the website addresses as requested by various visitors, and Bo said that he observed that most sites "popped-up" almost instantly. (They must have brought the ISDN version, as I can never get ANY website to load quickly. Guess it's time that the 'ol Muse upgraded to a 28.8K modem upgrade. :0)

Bo and Charlie also walked around many of the other exhibits looking for the competion, and found only "poor" Bandai and their "pippin", with a much larger booth, and a much smaller crowd gathered. Oracle and Viewcall were notably ABSENT from the Chicago convention. Both Charlie and Bo were looking for them and found they weren't even listed on the attendee roster. (Then again, neither is MSU... :0) I would have expected the Big Boys to use this opportunity to show the progress they have made thus far, but only the Bandai "Pippin" was present and reportedly the picture quality was low, and the base model (minus keyboard) was around $700-800. I guess Larry Ellison won't be stopping by after all.... :'0(

I wish that I could relate everything back to you that Charlie and Bo told me, but I did pointedly ask about the picture quality, and Bo, who freely admits to being no technology guru, said that images on various websites that he observed were "extremely" clear and defined. This was while he was observing a gentleman from the University of Chicago calling up photographic images from some website. Now I didn't get to actually see the Netbox surfing the web while I was in New York :0( but I trust Bo O'Brien who is just reporting what he saw, and didn't try to analyze or compare it to a .28 SVGA monitor, but he said that he saw little difference between images on his own computer, and those he saw on the NB. This is the HUGE difference between MSU and the better-known competitors like Oracle and Viewcall, whose products reportedly have inferior picture quality, as well as a higher cost. The difference is the iSP Slipstream ASIC, and each of them would probably be welcome to license it from MSU as well. That is, if they were smart..... :0)

I'm still trying to reach Keith Goodyer for his first-hand report. He is a hard man to track down as he is quite busy. I will bring you his comments, if possible, as soon I reach him.

I would appreciate the audiences' perspectives and questions. Any feedback??? Tell me how I'm doing and how you would like to change any part of the format... (Except the quotes, I gotta have the quotes, AND the smiling faces, too.... :0)

BTW, if you DO go to COMDEX, make sure that you walk around with your friends talking very LOUDLY about what you saw at the MSU exhibit. Make people's head turn a little bit and keep mentioning the exhibit location, Booth #N6106 East Hall...... They'll go there eventually :0)

Regards,

Ron
