Put it another way. In my 3 years or so on NT, I have had to rebuild the primary OS from the ground up twice, and from lessor disasters another two or three times. I have rebuilt the backup NT zero times. It simply never gets updated so it doesn't get clobbered.

If the cost is low and it is simple to implement why not maintain a restore option as an insurance policy?

You have better computer skills than most of us. You make fewer mistakes and what seems insignificant to you can be a major issue to someone with less experience or without the proper knowledge and skills. I agree one should try and find the cause of a problem and fix it. What if one has other more pressing issues? Why not maintain restore as an option?

Restoring a system can be a useful tool for minor issues too. It can be used as an uninstall option...backup one step and try again. No uninstall questions like 'this file MAY be used by another program..do you really want to delete it?

I'd rather play DOOM and rebuild it when the time comes.

It takes me a looong time to rebuild a system.
