When the government is borrowing the money it spends and you are already in so much debt lenders don't want to lend you anymore, it is not a good thing that the only GDP growth is a result of THAT spending. That happened for 8 years under Bush and led to our current mess... after he inherited a balanced budget. Most everyone recognizes it isn't so simple that you can just say, "Oh, yeah, Bush caused it, Obama fixed it". It's not fixed yet but otherwise it's that simple.
