While significant expenditures fund base operations in places like Germany and Korea, these are not huge items by Army standards. Of course, we have significant operations now on a temporary basis in Iraq and Afg. but these are atypical, and frankly, a lot of these costs are sunk and would have been spent even were we not at war (e.g., the cost of operating a C-130 doesn't change much whether it is here or there).

You've seen the breakdown between stateside and overseas facilities, or are you just making it up as you go along? All those bases overseas have 'hidden costs' like the schools and teachers needed to educate all those army 'brats' that come with military families. Its draining our economy and mostly benefits the countries where these facilities are.
