Mawson to drill test five projects in Q1
2006-01-24 18:11 ET - News Release
Mr. Michael Hudson reports
MAWSON ANNOUNCES ACTIVE FIRST QUARTER EXPLORATION PROGRAM IN SWEDEN
Mawson Resources Ltd. has scheduled an active work program for the first quarter of 2006. The program includes drill testing of five gold projects, the completion of National Instrument 43-101 technical reports for three uranium projects and the calculation of an independent NI 43-101 resource for the Vargbacken gold project.
Mawson has recently acquired a large-tonnage uranium rare earth exploration target at Tasjo (Mawson news in Stockwatch dated Jan. 5, 2006) and historic resources at both Klappibacken (Mawson news in Stockwatch dated Dec. 13, 2005) and Duobblon (Mawson news in Stockwatch dated Aug. 4, 2005). The company plans to complete independent National Instrument 43-101 technical reports on these projects to bring the historic resources into line with current resource classifications.
Work permits will be submitted for these uranium properties and the high-grade Flistjarn Athabasca-style uranium project (Mawson news in Stockwatch dated Dec. 20, 2005). The next phase of exploration at Flistjarn will comprise surface sampling and mapping, followed by diamond drilling in the second and third quarters of 2006. In Sweden, prospecting for uranium follows the same permitting procedures as other minerals included in the Swedish Mineral Act.
Mawson's gold exploration program for 2006 will commence with drilling at Middagsberget North, where the company discovered bonanza-grade gold mineralization in surface boulders during 2005. As reported in Mawson's news in Stockwatch on Sept. 6, 2005, and Nov. 16, 2005, grab samples from a cluster of large angular boulders range from 0.01 gram per tonne gold to 60.8 g/t gold, average 6.0 g/t gold, and include 34.0 g/t gold, 13.9 g/t gold and four metres at 19.1 g/t gold from separate boulders. A drilling program of approximately 150 bedrock drill holes for 1,500 metres is planned to commence in late February to sample basement rock below the soil layer testing for the primary source of the mineralized boulders. An eight-hole, 500-metre reverse circulation drill program is planned for Middagsberget North if the source of the bonanza gold boulders is located by the bedrock drill program.
At Vargbacken, a reverse circulation drilling program is planned to test a new zone of anomalous soil samples located 600 metres to the northeast of main mineralized body as reported in Mawson's news in Stockwatch on Dec. 1, 2005. The anomalous zone is 150 metres wide, with a strike extent in excess of 300 metres, and is interpreted to be associated with a new gold-bearing diorite. In combination with scout drilling, gold mineralization now extends over a 1.5-kilometre trend to the north and south of Vargbacken. Furthermore, the company has contracted an independent consultant to undertake an NI 43-101 resource calculation for the Vargbacken project.
Mawson also plans to RC drill three new gold targets on the company's Gold Line projects. The Gold Line is a 130-kilometre-long by five-kilometre-wide greenstone and metasediment trend in the western Skellefte district and is the current focus of gold exploration in Sweden. Mawson is the largest permitholder on the Gold Line, controlling 60 kilometres of the trend. The company is currently compiling data collected during the 2005 field season on these properties and details will be released when they become available. Although adequately financed to undertake the Gold Line exploration programs, the company is currently in discussion with potential joint venture partners to finance these regional programs.
Mawson's Angesdal project lies on the southern Gold Line, (Mawson news in Stockwatch dated July 21, 2005). A 75-hole bedrock drill program is planned to test magnetic anomalies located seven kilometres along strike from the 1.9-million-ounce Faboliden gold project, which is undergoing a prefeasibility study by Lappland Goldminers AB.
The qualified person for Mawson's Swedish projects, Mark Saxon, director and vice-president, exploration, of Mawson, and a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, has reviewed and verified the contents of this release.
