As Cramer would say WRONG!

There is literally a fire sale going on in New Year's eve travel right now. Flights are being cancelled across the board by airlines. Not just on New Year's eve and New Year's Day, but also on the days before and after. Hotel rooms are still available in virtually all the major "party cities," many of them at rates lower than the normal weekday business rates. Cruises are running half full and are being consolidated.

Virtually every company involved in this is claiming that they're cutting back because of "Y2K concerns." IT folks in many of the effected industries have told me "BS, they're cutting back because the customers aren't showing up."

Unfortunately, the Y2K hype has been going on for so long that people have gotten bored with it. Most popular place to be on December 31st is "at home." Second most popular is "watching TV with a few friends."

In the end there are going to be very few winners. The event organizers all overplanned and will lose. The people who got a "great deal" by buying in to events two years ago for insane prices will lose. (Mostly the same folks who bought ZITL at 40.)

As with most major events, only Dick Clark will figure a way to make money on it.

(Did you notice that SBUX is now selling flimsy aluminum containers as "Y2K time capsules?" A true sign of how pathetic it's all become.)
