One of our very best Presidents, Abraham Lincoln, was a nasty old trial attorney. Good one, too, I've read. As was one of our Revolutionary War heros, Patrick Henry.

Other great American lawyers -- John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, Andrew Jackson, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, Daniel Webster, John Calhoun, not exactly slime molds.

Not to mention the great jurists, like John Marshall, Benjamin Cardozo, and the like, as it should go without saying that to be a judge, usually you have to be a lawyer first.
