U.S. stock markets

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Technology stocks turned in a convincing performance Tuesday, with all of the major indexes ending solidly higher.
<Picture>The Nasdaq Composite jumped 12.99 to 1,800.76, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index added 5.74 to close at 260.78.
<Picture>The big Internet search engine stocks were standouts. Yahoo! (YHOO) rallied 8-1/2 to 117-7/8. Lycos (LCOS) rose 3-5/16 to 53-9/16. Excite (XCIT) closed 3-1/4 points higher at 65.
<Picture>Online book retailer Amazon.com (AMZN) gained 5 to 51-1/4.
<Picture>And shares of CNET (CNWK) soared 12-1/8 to 45-1/8 after General Electric's NBC network said it will take a 4.99-percent stake in Snap!, CNET's Internet portal service. >
