They can always lower it, but right now the $1099 low end MB is being called a value by a lot of industry writers and obviously it is selling well.

Without comparing to non-Apples, here's the jist I got.

MB $1099 vs $1299
1) 1.83 MHz to 2.0 MHz processor speedup
2) combo-drive to super-drive
3) anything else? is that all for $200? The super drive upgrade for the Mac Mini is only $50, though a thinner drive is likely needed for the notebooks

Priced out a Mac Mini $799 model with accessories and it came to $1,150.90 (details below) without a display. Compared to the $1099, the MB is a bargain. Even with the superdrive version for $200 more, it's still a bargain. Yes, you can save a bit on the accessories price, but remember, there is no display on the Mac Mini price. Here are the main differences I see:

1) form factor of course, laptop all in one compact portable unit versus discrete parts
2) 1.83 MHz to 1.66 MHz decrease
3) 13" screen versus no screen included
4) 3-4 hour UPS versus 1(?) hour UPS
5) Laptop keyboard versus full keyboard
6) Trackpad versus mouse
7) Internal speakers versus external
8) iSight built-in versus discrete
9) Combo-drive (unless upgrade model) versus SuperDrive
10) any other major differences?

The SuperDrive is the major advantage difference, otherwise, the I think the systems are fairly comparable. Any other serious specifications or limitations that are different?

Belkin Battery Backup with Surge Protection (750VA) $99.95
Sony personal speakers SRS-P11Q $24.95
Apple Mighty Mouse $49.00
Apple Keyboard $29.00
iSight $149.00
Mac mini 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo $799.00

TOTAL 1150.90
