Rereading what you and Steve were posting, it struck me that for the longest while you seemed to be speaking somehow past each other, despite your both possessing attractive writing styles.

My own thoughts, which probably speak to neither of you (but what can one expect after a conference call?), are that my special pet peeve is the excessive use of jargon. I'd opt for simplicity of speech, which sometimes includes brevity. I am extremely fond of the wise use of metaphor and simile, particularly when one is trying to convey difficult concepts--for example, when trying to describe a relational database to a person who has never even turned on a PC.
